Weekly Newsletter - 2nd November 2025

Dear Friends,

Today is the Fest of All Souls.

Saint of the Week – Saint Charles Borromeo (1538 – 1584)

At the age of 22, while not yet a priest, Charles was made a cardinal by his uncle, Pope Pius IV. In 1568, he was ordained priest and archbishop of Milan. He modified his aristocratic way of living and set his clergy an example of virtuous and selfless living. During the plague of 1576, he worked unceasingly to alleviate sufferers. Some nobles did not like his reforms of the diocese and tried to have him removed from office. An attempt was even made to assassinate him! He was only 46 when he died. He was an outstanding figure among Roman Catholic reformers after the Council of Trent, introducing reforms that were necessary and overdue in the life of the Church. He was canonized by Pope Paul V in 1610.
