Weekly Newsletter- 14th September 2025

Hello everyone,

In the absence of Fr. Brendan I will be working in the church. I was ordained recently (7th of September) at this church. I am looking forward to being here over the next few weeks. Please keep me in your prayers. You will be in mine.

Saint of the Week- St. Robert Bellarmine SJ

St Robert Bellarmine SJ (1542–1621), was a Jesuit cardinal, theologian, and Doctor of the Church whose wisdom continues to guide the Church today. Born in Italy, he entered the Society of Jesus and quickly became known for his brilliance, humility, and deep love of Christ. As a professor and later a cardinal, he defended the faith during the turbulent years of the Reformation with clarity and charity, always seeking to win hearts as well as minds.

His writings on scripture, the sacraments, and the life of prayer remain timeless, emphasising that true holiness flows from a humble relationship  with God. Despite holding high office, Bellarmine lived simply and cared deeply for the poor, embodying Ignatian values of service and discernment. He was canonised in 1930, he is the patron saint of catechists. His feast day, 17 September, invites us to renew our commitment to faith, learning, and loving service.

OVERCROWDEDACCOMMODATION IN NORTH INNER CITY

Do you share your bedroom with 2 or more people? Do you feel like there are too many people in your home? If so, the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice would like to talk with you.

I work for JCFJ as a housing researcher. Our offices are here in Gardiner St and Fr Niall Leahy SJ is our new Director. I have started gathering people’s stories about living in overcrowded accommodation in the North Inner City.

If you answered yes to one or both of the above questions, are privately renting, and you would like to tell me about your experience, please email me, Alexia, ataobrien@jcfj.ie. All conversations are held in confidence, and I never use people’s names. Thank you, Alexia.

MANRESARETREATS

SEASON OFCREATION

This year’s Season of Creation has as its theme “Peace with Creation”, inspired by the passage from Isaiah 32:14-18, “My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.” In a world of challenges and division, marked by war and climate change, how can we as people of faith create and work towards peace with creation?
