Today is The Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Saint of the Week - Saint Peter Claver, SJ – Wednesday. 8th September
Peter was born near Barcelona in 1580. He studied at the university in Barcelona and later joined the Jesuits at the age of 20. He studied at the Jesuit College in Mallorca and there met a saintly Jesuit, St. Alphonsus Rodrigues, a simple lay-brother who manned the reception area. Rodrigues urged Peter to go on mission to Latin America to help the African black slaves who had been brought there for sale by pirates. Peter went to Cartagena in Columbia where some 10,000 black slaves were sold annually. He cared for the sick and injured on their forced arrival from Africa. Peter spent his entire priestly life caring for these unfortunates. When Peter died on 8th September, 1654, the room in which he died was stripped of almost everything for people were looking for relics of this saintly man. Peter was canonized in 1888 by Pope Leo XIII. He is known as ‘The Saint of the Slave Trade.
Proposed Course in the Autumn
I propose offering an introductory course on the Early Years of Christian Theology and Spirituality (33 AD – 1,000AD ) in the autumn. These talks will take place on Saturday mornings from 10.00am. to 12 noon in the John Sullivan Room. There will be a break for tea/coffee. The first talk in this series will be on Saturday, 26th September.
Volunteers to read at Mass and forthe Choir
Margaret (our soloist) and Seamus(our organist) always welcome new members to join the choir. Rehearsals are on a Sunday morningat 10.30am in the John Sullivan Room, before the 11.00am Mass.
Reading Club
We will begin our autumn session on Monday, 28th September. We will be reading Consider Jesus – Waves of Renewal in Christology by Elizabeth A. Johnson

ST. MARY’S CATHEDRAL is closed temporarily to allow essential conservation, accessibility and renewal works as part of the next phase in its development as the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Dublin.
Administration work will continue as normal, though it may experience initial delays while they relocate to St. Joseph's Church, Berkeley Road, Dublin 7, D07 F592.

The course is fully booked. Admission on the day will be limited to those who have registered in advance; however, a waiting list is available should a place open up.

THE LITTLE 11 RESUMES ON SUNDAY 12TH. SEPTEMBER.
Special activities for children every second Sunday at 11 am Mass. Children are led in special faith formation activities, such as guided prayer, storytelling, drawing, etc. by a group of safeguarded volunteers These activities take 15-20minutes in the Coffee Room, opposite the door leading to Pope Francis corridor. Parents are also welcome.
