Weekly Newsletter - 7th June 2026

Dear Friends,

Today is The Feast of The Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)

We are currently on Day Four of the Novena to the Sacred Heart. Let us continue to pray for each other and for our intentions.

History of Devotion to the Sacred Heart

Devotion to the Sacred Heart was common in medieval times but it became more popular due to some visions which Saint Margaret Mary Alocoque (+1690), a Visitation nun ofParay-le-Monial, in central France, is reported to have experienced between1673 and 1675. Initially, she was not believed by her religious community, but a new spiritual director to the convent, a Jesuit, Saint Claude La Colombière (+1682) did believe her and encouraged Margaret Mary. Together, they promoted devotion to the Heart of Jesus. The French Jesuits, in particular, promoted this devotion as a way to counteract Jansenism, a theological movement in France of the time which presented God as being somewhat severe and demanding. In sharp contrast, devotion to the Sacred wanted to emphasize the mercy, love and compassion of Jesus Christ for each one of us.

Novena to the Sacred Heart

The Novena will continue until Friday 12th June when we will celebrate The Feast of the Sacred Heart. The Novena Masses are at 11.00am and 7.30pm. Please note that the 1.00 pm daily Mass will not be a Novena Mass.
