Weekly Newsletter - 5th July 2026

Dear Friends,

Today is The Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Saint of the Week – Saint Benedict(c.480-547) – Saturday 11th July

Born in Umbria, Italy. He was sent to Rome for studies but was disillusioned with what he found there. He became a solitary at Subiaco and later established a monastic community at Monte Cassiano, south of Rome. He drew up a monastic rule which is famous for its wisdom and discretion. Benedict called it “a little rule for beginners, a school of the Lord’s service in which we hope for nothing harsh or rigorous.” That simple but profound document was destined to play a considerable part in the religious and cultural history of Europe. Pope Paul VI (1963-78) declared Benedict ‘Patron of Europe’. There are Benediction monasteries at Glenstal Abbey in Limerick, in Rostrevor, Co. Down and in Kylemore Abbey in Connemara.

Proposed Course in the Autumn

I propose to offer an introductory course on the The Early Years of Christian Theology and Spirituality (33 –1,000 AD ) in the autumn. You do not have to have any prior knowledge of this subject. I would hope to make the talks as accessible as possible. These talks will take place on Saturday mornings from 10.10am. to 12 noon in the John Sullivan Room. You might give it some thought over the summer. Further details later.

Margaret (our soloist) and Seamus(our organist) always welcome new members to join the choir. Rehearsals are on a Sunday morningat 10.30am in the John Sullivan Room, before the 11.00am Mass.

Reading Club

We are taking a break for the summermonths and will return on Monday, 28th September.
