Dear Friends,
Today is the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Saint of the Week –Saint Otteran(+548) – Tuesday, 27th October
Otteran (Odhrán) is said to have been born in Tipperary. He later became a monk (possibly abbot)in Meath and was among the 12 who travelled to Iona with Saint Columba (Colmcille). The oldest remaining church on Iona is dedicated to Saint Otteran. Otteran’s grave is revered on the island. The Vikings used to bury their dead chieftains on Iona. In 1096, the Vikings named Otteran as the patron saint of the city of Waterford and its cathedral is dedicated to Saint Otteran.
