Dear Friends,
Today is the Sixth Sunday after Easter.
Already people are asking about the dates for the Novena to the Sacred Heart. This novena will begin on Thursday19th June and finish on Friday 27th June. Our preacher this year will be Fr. Vincent Sherlock, a priest of the diocese of Achonry. Fr. Vincent is a regular contributor to the Sacred Heart Messenger.

SAINT OF THE WEEK – Saint Philip Neri – Monday, 26th May
Born in Florence in 1515, he was the son of a Florentine lawyer. Philip had a good education. He lived as a lay man in Rome for seventeen years, earning his living as a tutor, writing poetry and studying philosophy and theology. From 1538, he began to devote himself to work among the young of the city of Rome. He founded a brotherhood of laymen who met together for worship and to give help to pilgrims and to the sick. This developed into the great Trinity Hospital (Ospedale della Trinità). He was ordained priest in 1551. He built an oratory where musical compositions on biblical themes were sung by solo voices and a chorus (hence the name oratorio). Other young priests assisted Philip and, by 1575, he had formed these priests into the Congregation of the Oratory (the Oratorians). Philip was known for his gentleness and gaiety. Like St. Thomas More, Philip was noted for his cheerfulness which is supposed to distinguish every saint, but which is more apparent in some than in others! Philip died in Rome in 1595. He wascanonized by Pope Gregory XV in 1622.

LAUDATO SI’ WEEK(24-31 MAY)
We celebrate the 10 years since Laudato Si’ was published, and we celebrate the life and legacy of Pope Francis.
Blessed are those who protect and care for our common home.
It has taken catastrophic weather and a dangerous loss of biodiversity for many people to wake up to the crisis around us. It all begins with our failure to recognise the connectedness of all life and the interdependency of all species.
Many climate warriors have faced ridicule, imprisonment, oppression because they speak the truth about our environment. They are indeed blessed for their persistence in proclaiming our common home in the face of such opposition.
