Weekly Newsletter - 1st June 2025

Dear Friends,

Today is the Feast of the Ascension

It’s incredible to think that we are already at the beginning of June! Time seems to go quicker the older we get.

Just to recall that the Novena to the Sacred Heart will begin on Thursday 19th June and finish on Friday 27thJune. Our preacher this year will be Fr. Vincent Sherlock, a priest of the diocese of Achonry. Fr. Vincent is a regular contributor to the Sacred Heart Messenger.

The Front Office is open Monday toFriday from 9.30am – 1.00pm and 1.30pm – 4.30pm.

Saturday from 10.00am – 2.00pm; Sunday9.30am – 12.30pm

Saint of the Week – Saint Kevin ofGlendalough

Kevin (‘the fair-headed one) was bornof a noble family in Wicklow in 498. He studied for the priesthood inKilnamanagh. He desired a life of solitude and deep prayer and so chose to livein a cave (now called ‘St. Kevin’s Bed) above the upper lake in Glendalough. Helived there as a hermit for seven years. He is said to have had a particularlove of nature and animals – somewhat akin to St. Francis of Assisi. Kevin waseventually joined by others seeking the same life of prayer. A monastery grewup around Kevin which flourished for over 1,000 years after his death. TheAnnals tell us that Kevin died in 618 at the age of 120! The monastic life must have suited him! Kevin is one of the patrons of the Archdiocese of Dublin.
