Dear Friends,
Today is The Third Sunday of Easter.
Saint of the Week. – Saint Mark, theEvangelist – Saturday, 25th April
The author of the Gospel accordingto Mark. He is referred to in the New Testament epistles as being with St.Peter and St. Paul. The ‘John Mark’ mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles is usually regarded as having been the same person. Mark went with St. Paul and St. Barnabas on their first missionary journey. He went, later, with Barnabas to begin the evangelization of Cyprus. Mark was with Paul in Rome where he probably wrote his Gospel. That he afterwards went to Alexandria in Egypt and preached the Gospel there is possible. St. Mark’s name is commonly associated with the city of Venice because in 829 AD what purported to be his relics were brought there from Alexandria and enshrined in the Basilica of San Marco.
