Weekly Newsletter - 10th May 2026

Dear Friends,

Today is The Fifth Sunday of Easter.

We are now in the month of May which is associated with devotion to Our Lady. St. Ignatius of Loyola encourages us to ask Mary to intercede with her Son, Jesus, for the graces, the helps which we need. What might those graces be for you at this time? Mary is also the ‘Queen of Peace’, so we ask her intercession especially for peace in our troubled world.

Saint of the Week. – Saint Andrew Bobola, S.J. – Saturday, 16th May

Born in 1591 in Poland, Andrew entered the Jesuits in Vilna, capital of Lithuania, which was then part of Poland. He was ordained in 1622. He was known as an outstanding preacher in St. Casimir’s Church in Vilna. He also worked in Poland. At the time, there were tensions between the Roman Catholic and the Russian Orthodox Churches. There were marauding Russian Cossacks threatening the Catholic population around Vilna. These Cossacks captured Andrew and tortured him most cruelly because he would not renounce his Catholic faith. Andrew died as a result of this horrendous torture. He was initially buried in Pinsk, in Belarus, beneath the high altar in the Jesuit church. In 1922, the Russian Bolsheviks took his body to a Moscow museum. In 1923, Pope Pius XI requested that the body be taken to Rome. After Andrew’s canonization on 17th April,1938, the body was returned to Poland and is now honoured in the Jesuit church in Warsaw.
